Pro is the new Free
Followed by the previous post, just in two weeks or so, Cursor has literally revoked the "unlimited" agent requests for the Pro plan, and claimed it was a misunderstanding that since the beginning, it was intentionally only happening when you choose the "Auto" mode.
So far, I haven't got any notice to say I'm reaching to a threshhold or something, but I do consider if I should switched back to the 500 requests legacy mode, as people all say the "unlimited" Pro plan will only give you ~225 requests to Claude Sonnet 4, which is significantly less than what we used to be able to get.
The feeling does more like that, with the Pro plan with $20/month, it's getting like a Free plan except you still have to pay for it lol.
I think Cursor fucked up the big time in mid-June when they claimed the Pro plan has rate-limited "unlimited" requests. They should either never call it "unlimited", or keep calling it but tighten the rate-limiting. That's totally fair, you just enforce your rate-limiting which no one knows the exact rule. And you just keep tightening it to push users to upgrade. That'll certainly prevent a shit show like this. Not sure why they went this route.
Certainly, the AI Code Editor market is so competitve and the Cursor team seems to be run by a bunch of young folks so maybe it's not too surprising for things like this.
One thing I do like about their recent products is the Bugbot GitHub bot that you can ask it to check if your PR has bugs. It's unlike the Copilot bot that it is bug-focused, so while Copilot can find you refactoring ideas, Bugbot does find bugs and it has saved me once so far.
Look forward to seeing how everything will pave ahead.
